Opposites Attract challenge

I decided to do something with my little amount of free time this week. So I pull out a book a bought not too long ago, Creative Workshop-88 challenges to sharpen your design skills by David Sherwin. I pick Challenge No.22 in Execution chapter.

Here is the challenge:     60 min
An editor at a major publishing house has contacted you and asked if you'll brainstorm cover concepts for an upcoming hard-cover book about perceptions of beauty throughout the ages. Ironically, the book is titled Ugly by author Jane Klingslanger. In the time limit provided, come up with a range of cover ideas, then select one of those ideas to draw out in a clean professional comp that can easily be migrated into a computer execution.

Here is what I came up in 60 min.

Hey, lighten up! We are on sales.

A poster I design using type as image for lighting stores.
The concept is bases on the common emotional reaction to Sales ads. The type plays with the word "lighten up", as we all experience those moments every time we notice a sales ad, with or without the intention of buying the products. The message is "Hey, lighten up! We are on sales with all kinds of lights you are looking for."

Punctuation booklet

The draft of a small booklet about punctuation.

I was inspired by the famous building Habitat 67.

The first page is the cover. The rest is 4 of the insides pages. The back of these pages create a pop up illustrating the concept. The ponctuations are made from boxes with different sizes. The placement of these boxes actually create a space/structure like Habitat 67.

The third page of my watercolor Moleskine. I'm feeling guilty for letting it covered with dust at the corner of my desk. These days people often ask/prefer digital works from me, "because it is faster and easier to revise", they said. It is true but sad. I still believe a pencil and a dream can take me anywhere.
